Many people ask us if their piano is worth the investment of a restoration. Each piano is different, as is each customer. Generally, if the piano is structurally sound, it will make a good candidate for restoration. This can only be determined by having our technician examine the instrument for overall health and condition.
Many people choose to restore an older piano because it has sentimental value, having been in the family for years. Owning a beautifully restored older piano is like owning a piece of history. Some of our customers just like the sound of a vintage instrument. Pianos made in the early part of the 20th centery were made of high-quality components, their soundboards are well-seasoned, and their tone can be astounding.
Our general rule of thumb is, if you like the way the piano sounds as it is, a restoration will only improve those things you find appealing about the instrument.
It is a myth that “old pianos won’t hold their tune”, or that if a piano is beyond a certain age it isn’t worth restoring. It all depends on the instrument, and our technicians can give you their expert opinion on the practicality of restoring your particular piano.
